SYDNEY’S NEWEST LUXURY CRUISER TO REVOLUTIONISE HARBOUR DINING

FAMED OZ CHEF PAUL MERRONY AT THE HELM

The arrival of a new $5 million, 34 metre luxury catamaran is set to change the face of on-water dining in Sydney. The stylish MAGISTIC TWO signals a totally new concept in harbour dining, with renowned chef Paul Merrony consulting.

Magistic Cruises’ Chief Executive Officer, Sudhir Warrier, said today that the vessel would compete with Sydney’s leading restaurants, providing first class food that would easily match the stunning vistas.

“The simple truth of Sydney Harbour cruising in the past has been that the great views meant that some operators did not have to worry about the cuisine being offered and with Paul’s appointment we are signalling our commitment to offering both the best in harbour cruising AND quality food,” he said.

Paul Merrony’s description of his cuisine style is “modern Australian based on classic French techniques.”

“Magistic Cruises has taken a bold step in relation to the fitout of MAGISTIC TWO,” he said. “It is sheer contemporary elegance. The company is heralding to the harbour cruise market a new contender that takes its food and its role as a hospitality leader very seriously.”

This marks Paul’s return to the Sydney dining scene. Paul’s involvement as consultant will allow Magistic Cruises to draw upon extensive experience in Paris, London and owning and operating Merrony’s Restaurant for 10 years in Sydney. Paul lived and worked in Paris and London in establishments including Tour d’Argent in Paris and the Roux Brothers in London.

MAGISTIC TWO will be operated as a cruising restaurant during the day and for exclusive hire from dusk. Paul Merrony will design a range of menus to match stunning Sydney Harbour with superlative cuisine created by the consultant chef from premium local produce.

“We are creating a totally new niche market sector,” Mr Warrier said. “The corporate market now has a new choice of business lunches onboard MAGISTIC TWO. Within two hours you can enjoy a quality dining experience with a moving feast of glorious locations easily accessed from either King Street Wharf or Campbell’s Cove.”

“We are already filling for Christmas/New Year functions, with Sydneysiders wanting a sophisticated venue of distinction,” said Mr Warrier.

“For all-day public cruises we are attracting inbound and domestic markets. Pricing is set to compete with harbourfront restaurants.”

MAGISTIC TWO’S builders, the Austal Group, are regarded as Australia’s most capable and respected in the field of high quality aluminium vessels. They have been in operation since 1986, delivering in excess of 160 custom built vessels with a client base that reaches from Australasia and the Pacific to Africa and USA. The shipyard is currently constructing a luxury yacht for Australian golfer Greg Norman.

The dining capabilities of the sleek three level craft were a major consideration in Magistic Cruises’ brief to the Austal Group. The fully equipped galley-style kitchen is similar to those found in the best restaurants and the vessel boasts the largest open foredeck on Sydney Harbour.

MAGISTIC TWO joins the existing luxury yacht MV Magistic on Sydney Harbour. Magistic Cruises is part of Accor’s Sydney Harbour fleet.
