What’s New at Vivid Sydney 2022 | Things to Do and See
After a two-year-long hiatus, Vivid Sydney is back in town mates! The festival is scheduled to take place from Friday, 27 May to Saturday, 18 June. The city of Sydney will once again spring to life—draped in festive vibes, colours and lights—and we cannot seem to contain our excitement to be a part of it. This year, the line-up of artists is quite stellar and what’s more, for the first time in history, the festival will be centred around a theme— ‘The Soul of Our City.’ Here’s a look-see into this year’s elements of Vivid Sydney and what to expect of it.
If you’re planning to head to Sydney during Vivid, read through the article to know where and how to enjoy the best of the festival. Although many of the light installations and displays are free, there are many ticketed events and vantage points that you can go to. Whether it is the Vivid-themed concerts and shows or the Vivid cruises 2022 and tours, there are numerous attractive options for you to choose from.
First off, let’s have a run-down of the most exciting new things to do and see at the festival.
Lights – Some of the must-sees of this year in the Vivid Sydney lights segment include ‘Lighting of the Sails, ‘Endless Love’, ‘Ephemeral Oceanic’, ‘Convergence’ and so on. Launching for the first time would be ‘First Light’, a special event that will powerfully acknowledge and celebrate the First Nations. Tip: if you’re on the Harbour, reserve your seats at a waterfront restaurant or a dinner cruise in Sydney for stunning perspectives of the harbour installations and attractions.
Music – Explore a mix of free and ticketed events that make for memorable nights at famous places in the city including the Sydney Opera House, Central Station Grand Concourse, The Calyx, The Ivy and Vivid Sydney Supper Club being our top picks.
Ideas – From fashion shows at the Maritime Museum to Vivid Talks and photography tours, Vivid Sydney has long been a trailblazer of change in society. Global storytellers will preside over Vivid Ideas with a line-up of talks by leaders from various industries.
This year, Vivid Sydney will be primarily held in the CBD and regions of Circular Quay, The Rocks, Walsh Bay, Darling Square, and Darling Harbour. Some of the major landmarks in the city such as Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Customs House and the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia are also must-visit places during the festival. Another highlight of Vivid Sydney 2022 is that the program will be extended to The ASN Clocktower near The Rocks and Central Station and The Good Line including an abandoned tunnel. Most of the above-mentioned landmarks—all clad in bright and reflective art works—can be enjoyed from a waterfront vantage point such as our special Vivid cruise. There are plenty of other waterfront dining options including rooftop restobar or hotels situated on the harbourside.
